Myotherapy Services

Tom Black, The Manx Myotherapist, is a Myotherapist in Geelong who provides the below Myotherapy services.

Myotherapy

Myotherapy is a form of physical therapy that focuses on assessing, treating, and managing musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. It involves techniques such as soft tissue manipulation, trigger point therapy, and stretching to alleviate pain and improve mobility.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy involves the manipulation of soft tissues in the body to promote relaxation, reduce muscle tension, and improve circulation. Various techniques such as effleurage, kneading, and percussion are used depending on the desired outcome.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a therapeutic massage technique that aims to address specific musculoskeletal issues, injuries, or imbalances. It involves assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies to improve function and reduce pain.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage targets deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue to release chronic tension and adhesions. It uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach underlying muscle fibers.

Sports Massage

Specialised for athletes, sports massage aids recovery, enhances performance, and prevents injuries. It targets muscle soreness, improves flexibility, and optimises physical readiness for sports activities through tailored techniques and therapeutic approaches.

Cupping

Cupping therapy involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which can help to improve blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and promote healing. It is often used in conjunction with massage or dry needling.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique used to treat muscle pain and dysfunction by inserting thin needles into trigger points or tight bands of muscle. It aims to release muscle tension and improve range of motion.

Joint Mobilisation

Joint mobilisation is a manual therapy technique used to improve joint function and range of motion. It involves gentle movements applied to specific joints to reduce stiffness and improve flexibility.

Other services include:

  • Exercise Prescription: Personalised exercise programs tailored to an individual's needs, goals, and physical condition. It aims to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and overall functional ability through targeted exercises and activities.

Myotherapy Process

Typical Myotherapy sessions include:

1. Assessment: Tom will start by asking you about your medical history, previous injuries, and current symptoms. He may also perform some physical tests to assess your range of motion, muscle strength, and posture. This assessment helps them understand the root cause of your pain or discomfort.

2. Hands-on Therapy: Tom uses various techniques to treat your specific condition. These may include soft tissue techniques, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, joint mobilisation, and dry needling. Myotherapy can be very specific to focus on the affected areas to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and improve mobility.

3. Exercise Prescription: Based on your assessment, Tom can provide you with specific exercises and stretches to help strengthen weak muscles, improve flexibility, and prevent future injuries.

4. Education and Advice: During the session, Tom will educate you about your condition and provide advice on self-management strategies. This may include lifestyle modifications, ergonomic recommendations, and self-care techniques you can practice at home to maintain the benefits of the treatment.

5. Follow-up: At the end of the session, Tom will discuss the recommended frequency of treatment and any additional sessions that may be required to address your specific condition.

It's important to note that the specific techniques and modalities used during a Myotherapy treatment can vary depending on the individual practitioner and your specific needs. Therefore, it's always best to consult with a qualified Myotherapist to discuss your concerns and goals before starting a treatment plan.
